Weather Situation


A trough lying near the southern New South Wales coast is forecast to deepen
and form a low tonight. This low will deepen further during Monday and Tuesday
and linger in the region through Wednesday, bringing windy and wet weather as
well as large waves to parts of the coast. During the second half of the week
the low will move away to the east, to be replaced by a ridge of high pressure.

Forecast for the rest of Sunday 12 July
A few showers and possible thunderstorms with hail across all but the far
northwest. Rain developing about the South Coast. Snow possible on the Alps
above 1300 metres. Northerly winds in the northeast, turning west to
southwesterly in the west and south to southeasterly in the southeast.

Forecast for Monday 13 July
Rain increasing across the southeast, where heavy falls are possible. Showers
elsewhere across the coast, ranges and western slopes. The chance of
thunderstorms along the coast and about the Central West. Snow possible on the
Alps above about 1100 metres, with the chance of a dusting of snow about higher
parts of the central and northern ranges. Patchy morning frost across the
northwestern inland. Daytime temperatures below average. South to southwesterly
winds across the ranges and inland, tending southeasterly along parts of the
coast. Winds strong for some coastal areas in the south.

Forecast for Tuesday 14 July
Showers or rain mostly on the coast and ranges south from the Mid North Coast.
Snow falling above about 1500 metres on the Alps. Early snow possible on the
northern ranges above 1100 metres. Dry and partly cloudy in the west. Daytime
temperatures a little below average in the east and a little above average
inland. Strong and gusty southerly winds along the southern coast, extending
north to the Mid North Coast during the day. Moderate south to southwesterly
winds elsewhere, tending fresh about the ranges. Dangerous surf conditions.

Forecast for Wednesday 15 July
Showers along the coast and ranges. Snow falling on the southern Alps above
1500 metres. Dry and partly cloudy in the west. Areas of morning frost across
the inland. Daytime temperatures about average. Southerly winds, fresh to
strong and gusty along the coastal fringe. Dangerous surf conditions.

Forecast for Thursday 16 July
A few showers along the coast. Dry and mostly sunny in the west. Areas of
morning frost across the inland. Daytime temperatures about average. Southerly
winds, fresh along the coast. Dangerous surf conditions.
