New South Wales

Synoptic Situation: A cold front that move through most of New south Wales yesterday is continuing to linger as a low pressure trough in the states northeast this afternoon. A low pressure system is currently developing within this trough, offshore near to Port Stephens. This will reinforce a vigorous southerly flow along much of the coast during the next 24 hours, with likely gales about central parts of the coast. The low should weaken during Wednesday and Thursday as a high pressure system becomes dominant over the Tasman Sea, pushing a ridge into New South Wales, and bringing a gradual return to northeasterly winds. Another cold front looks set to arrive on the weekend.
Wind and wave forecasts are averages. Wind gusts can be 40 per cent stronger than the forecast, and stronger still in squalls and thunderstorms. Maximum waves can be twice the forecast height.
