Synoptic Situation: A weak surface trough lies along the North Queensland coast. The trough will develop further and move offshore of the North Queensland coast during Friday, with south to southeasterly winds developing over coastal waters.

Wind and wave forecasts are averages. Wind gusts can be 40 per cent stronger than the forecast, and stronger still in squalls and thunderstorms. Maximum waves can be twice the forecast height.

Winds: Variable about 10 knots.
Seas: Below 0.5 metres.
Swell 1: East to northeasterly below 1 metre.
Weather: Partly cloudy. 50% chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm.

Friday 28 February

Winds: Variable about 10 knots becoming south to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the morning. Winds reaching up to 20 knots offshore south of Cape Bowling Green in the evening. Northeasterly inshore afternoon sea breezes.
Seas: Below 0.5 metres, increasing to around 1 metre during the morning.
Swell 1: Northeasterly below 1 metre.
Weather: Mostly sunny. 30% chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm.

Saturday 29 February

Winds: Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots.
Seas: 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1 to 2 metres during the afternoon.
Swell 1: Northeasterly below 1 metre.
Weather: Mostly sunny.

Winds: Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots decreasing to about 10 knots during the evening.
