Synoptic Situation: A cold front will cross Tasmania today in a strong and gusty westerly stream. A ridge will extend north of Tasmania on Friday easing the westerly flow later in the day. A low forms near the east of Tasmania on Saturday as a cold front approaches from the southwest. This front will cross the state during Sunday, bringing a cooler southwesterly change.
Wind and wave forecasts are averages. Wind gusts can be 40 per cent stronger than the forecast, and stronger still in squalls and thunderstorms. Maximum waves can be twice the forecast height.
