Wind and wave forecasts are averages. Wind gusts can be 40 per cent stronger than the forecast, and stronger still in squalls and thunderstorms. Maximum waves can be twice the forecast height.
Synoptic Situation: An East Coast Low lies well off the Mid North Coast, and extends a trough of low pressure across the central coast. The East Coast Low should move closer to the coast through Monday, accompanied by locally intense winds and large seas. Conditions are expected to gradually ease later Monday or Tuesday as the low and trough weaken and high pressure becomes dominant.
