Synoptic Situation: A vigorous southerly change associated with a deepening low pressure system over the Tasman Sea will affect the southern half of the coast today, continuing to the northern border on Tuesday. A high south of the Bight is forecast to extend a ridge along the coast in the wake of the southerly change, and looks set to remain the dominant feature in the region through much of the coming week.
Wind and wave forecasts are averages. Wind gusts can be 40 per cent stronger than the forecast, and stronger still in squalls and thunderstorms. Maximum waves can be twice the forecast height.
Winds: North to northeasterly about 10 knots becoming northerly 15 to 20 knots in the morning. An evening gusty southerly change 20 to 30 knots.
Seas: Below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday.
Swell 1: Southerly below 1 metre.
Weather: Sunny day. The chance of a thunderstorm offshore late this afternoon and evening.
